Where did my story begin……how many miles have I traveled, what adventures have I seen, how many hands have touched me, how much history do I hold, how many generations have cherished me……..the wonders and stories I could share.
Perhaps my life began as as a wine bottle that was purchased to mark the first anniversary of a loving couple. They toast to many more years of adventures with one another and plan their future family; kids, dogs and anniversary celebrations. Maybe I was a platter that graced an elegant dinner party, a dinner party that took months to plan to every detail from color palette to dessert menu, flowers and guest list. It is possible that I was a childs cherished piggy bank that the child eventually outgrew. Could it be that I was a glass tea cup that had been used daily until I was deemed unusable; not because I wasn’t cherished any longer but because I was so loved and used that I was no longer able to hold the treat I was designed to carry. I may have been a milk bottle delivered to you by your milkman on his Tuesday delivery; he always came before nine in the morning and tapped lightly on your door alerting you to my arrival.
I have traveled hundreds of nautical miles over several decades. My journey has taken me through the roughest of storms with raging waves as tall as mountains and topped with white caps that glisten in the moonlight. I have seen oceans that appear glass like with the smoothest surface and crystal clear water. I have gathered at the surface and basked in the rays of the glorious sun. Sun so pure and hot that I barley remain cool on my underside. I have dove deep into the darks of the ocean and been surrounded by aquatic life so stunningly beautiful and majestic. I have been tossed in the air with such force from the mere magnificent power of the oceans yet brought back down into the ocean in a delicate manner.
My travels take me to my landing place. I am worn, a bit dull but in a bright way, I am a mere size of the object I began my journey as. I have reached the shore. I feel the grains of sand polishing me in a sort of way preparing me for the treasure I will some day become. The waves bring me in and out as the hours pass. Each timely push of the oceans strength brings me higher in. I am eventually nestled in a crevice just out of the oceans reach. The sun dries me and gives a bit of sparkle to my now lightly sanded finish. I glisten. I am ready to be discovered. I am now beach glass. A treasure to many.
There is so much to be discovered on the island of Maui. Restaurants, shopping, hiking, surfing, and tours to name a few. We encourage you to simply walk along the beach as often as you can while you’re here. Find your own treasure. Wether it be a small shell, the mystical beach glass, a new friend, an excited puppy, a sunset or sunrise, the beach holds wonders and much life.
